Liposculpture

What is Liposculpture?

Liposculpture (also called Liposuction or Lipoplasty) is a surgical technique used to improve body contour by removing localised fatty deposits.

In women these deposits are commonly found under the chin, abdomen (tummy), inner and outer thighs (saddle bags), inner knees, buttocks, calves and ankles.
In men these deposits are often found on the abdomen (tummy), flanks (love handles), the breasts and chin.

Liposculpture is most effective for localised areas of excess fat.  For heavy people it is most effective when combined with diet and an exercise program.

What will happen when I have liposculpture at Parkside Cosmetic Surgery?

At Parkside Cosmetic Surgery liposculpture is performed in an operating theatre under sterile conditions.  You will be given medication which will relax you and make you feel comfortable, however, you will be awake throughout the whole procedure and the surgeon and nurses will talk to you and tell you what is going on.

A dilute anaesthetic solution is infiltrated into the fat to be removed through tiny punctures in the skin.  Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, the surgeon will insert fine metal tubes through several openings, in turn, into the fatty area and remove the excess fat by means of a syringe or suction pump.

Is  the liposculpture procedure painful?

Most patients at Parkside Cosmetic Surgery experience little or no pain during or after the procedure and require only paracetamol at most.  The techniques used result in little or no bleeding during the procedure, and little or no bruising after.

Following the procedure, some patients may experience a little swelling, especially if the thighs, knees or ankles are treated, and possibly a little bruising.  This will resolve with time.  A comfortable lycra suit is worn for a period after surgery.  There are a few restrictions to normal activity and most people return to work within a couple of days.

How long before I see the results of my liposculpture procedure?

The benefits of liposculpture are immediate, and as healing gradually shrinks the fat layer and the skin, the result may continue to improve over several months.  Once removed, these fat cells cannot return.

Whilst the results of any operation cannot be guaranteed, and a realistic aim is significant improvement and not perfection, patient satisfaction rates with modern Liposculpture are very high.

Our patients at Parkside Cosmetic Surgery are extremely pleased with their results.
