(Excessive Sweating)

Excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis, involves overactive sweat glands.  When sweating becomes excessive it can be embarrassing, uncomfortable and stressful.  Excessive underarm sweating can disrupt many aspects of a person's life, from career choices and recreational activities to relationships, emotional well-being and self-esteem.

At Parkside Cosmetic Surgery, we treat hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin type A which is a natural, purified protein that temporarily blocks the release of a chemical that signals perspiration, helping to reduce excessive sweating.  

This treatment is a non-surgical procedure whereby a small amount of botulinum toxin type A is administered into the skin by our cosmetic surgeon using a very fine needle.  Generally the treatment may take around 1 hour.  Discomfort is typically minimal and brief and although the injection site may sting for a few seconds, normal activities can be resumed soon after.

After the injection it takes about 7 days for the treatment to take full effect.

A treatment of botulinum toxin type A for excessive sweating of the armpits, hands or feet costs $1,200. After the first treatment the effects lasts an average of 7 months.  However the amount of time the treatment remains effective may vary from person to person.
